I wasn’t planning to write another paper this soon, but I had a scary experience today at Academy Sports. I am a gunsmith and sometimes I have to run to Academy Sports for a set of scope rings, ammo, or cleaning equipment. While there I got into a discussion with the firearms clerk. He showed me something that I think could cause even more grief for our 2A rights. He handed me what looked and operated exactly like a suppressed M4. At first glance, this is a fully automatic M4. Picture this: A child in his back yard is having target practice and you, (as a law abiding citizen) see this child firing a fully auto M4. Your first thought is where did this kid get a full auto gun in the first place? The next thing is the safety for yourself, family and neighbors. You call the police to report this and they show up with guns drawn thinking the same as you did. This situation could end up in a fatal injury for the child. Another scenario to think about is someone that could not pass a background check could purchase one of these and use it to rob a store, bank or private person…you get the point.
It is my belief that the Crosman Company should recall every one of these air rifles and equip each one of them with something that identifies these guns as a BB gun. The Airsoft people put an orange tip on the ends of the barrels so they can be identified as a toy. A little forethought would evert a tragedy later.
