See You There!
Who is God? He calls Himself the Alpha And Omega.
He says in Revelation 22:13 “I am the Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.”
John 1:1-3 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; Without Him nothing was made that has been made.” Translation: In the beginning was Jesus, and Jesus was with God, and Jesus was God. Jesus was with God in the beginning. Through Jesus all things were made; Without Jesus nothing was made that has been made. We know this ‘translation’ is true because Jesus called Himself the Word of Life.
God knows our beginning and our end, as He knows all things.
Psalm 139: 13 “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my Mother’s womb.”
What should we do with the in-between time? That time that is between our birth and the end of life here on earth?
Do you remember where you were on that Tuesday morning of September 11, 2001? Do you remember the moment you heard the news that planes had flown into the World Trade Center Towers? We were under attack by terrorists. Our Pentagon was also hit, and Flight 93 went down in Pennsylvania.
Do you remember hearing about Princess Diana’s death? She was killed in what appeared to be a tragic car crash. And just this week we learned news of Kobe Bryant’s sudden death in a helicopter crash.
These are all events that shocked us. Life was snuffed out so quickly.
We can’t make sense of it. There are just some things we can’t understand.
But, God being Himself the Alpha, and the Omega knows our beginning and our end.
Moses in Psalm 90 wrote about the brevity of life.
Psalm 90:12 “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”
What do we do with this time of life we have here? I’m asking myself this, as I ask you. Do we spend our time well?
Do we spend our time chasing after stuff? Chasing stuff that we can use to fill up these square boxes we live in?
Do we spend time getting to know God?
Do we spend time developing relationships and friendships?
Do we love our families? Do we teach our children? Do we teach them right from wrong? Do we teach values? Do we teach them to love and respect others?
Do I love others? Do I serve them? Do you?
Jesus reprimanded a couple of His disciples when they asked to sit in places of honor with Him in His kingdom. See what he said to them about how they should live.
Matthew 20:26b-28 “Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave - just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.”
Jesus came to serve. If we know Him, and consider ourselves Christ followers, scripture says we are to follow His example, to walk and do the things He did. We are to walk in His steps.
1 Peter 2:21 “To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, an example, that you should follow in His steps.”
Do any of you remember the old book, In His Steps? My parents had it, and I remember reading it as a teenager. It is a powerful story. If you haven’t read it, I suggest you find a copy.
Okay, get back on track, Rose.
Do we spend time investing in the lives of those around us? Do your friends and family know Jesus? Have you shared Jesus with your loved ones?
We can’t take all of our stuff with us. But we can enjoy eternity with our loved ones if they know Jesus as we do.
Matthew 6:19-20 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.”
People, not things, last for eternity. We CAN take them with us!
Let’s decide here today, right now, to spend more time loving and serving others. Let’s show those around us, and especially those we love the most, who Jesus is. We can show them this by the way we love.
John 15:12 “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.”
John 13:35 “By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
This is truly preparedness for eternity, for ALL of time.
I hope to see each of you there!
