Why Do We Prepare? by Mountain Rose

Why do We Prepare?

What are your reasons for preparing?

As I’ve talked with like-minded folks, I’ve heard many reasons given. Do you live near the coast? You likely stay prepared for hurricanes. Do you live in “tornado alley”? I’m sure you keep your eyes and ears tuned to storms, the sky, sirens, and you likely have some type of shelter on your property to seek refuge. Natural disasters can come quickly, and often with little warning. Do you fear financial collapse? How about terrorism, civil unrest, or war? These are all valid reasons to prepare.

Let’s go deeper. Why do we prepare? Isn’t it ultimately because we want to survive, and make sure our family and loved ones do also? We love life, and those we love make it even sweeter. Of course we want them to have every possible chance to safely survive.

Have you ever wondered about God, and what the Bible says about these things? Here are a few verses from scripture to ponder:

Psalm 61:2 “From the ends of the earth I call to you. I call as my heart grows faint; lead me the rock that is higher than I.” NIV

Jeremiah 29:11 “ For I know the plans and thoughts I have for you, says the LORD, plans for peace and well-being and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” AMP

Psalm 23:5 “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies…” NIV

We can cling to God our rock. Imagine pounding surf, and being safe above it on a high rock. That’s the illustration to be realized. When we have trouble holding on, He is there! He is “The Solid Rock”.

God has good plans for each of us. He cares about the details of our lives. He wants us to live in peace with all men. Romans 12:18

God desires to give us a good future and hope. Jeremiah goes on to say “you will call upon me, and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me; when you seek me with all your heart, I will be found by you.” This is a wonderful promise from God Himself. Do you seek God earnestly?

I want to share one more promise from Jesus Himself. If we don’t survive, we have the assurance the He has prepared a place for us.

John 14:2-3 “In my Father’s House are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to myself that where I am there you may be also.”

Now that’s preparedness friends, on a heavenly scale. It’s wonderful to think of all God has planned for us, regardless of our difficulties.
