Patriot Express Newsletter Edition #261

Greetings and welcome to the Patriot Express Newsletter Edition #261. Welcome to Hope for Survival. We are happy to have you with us this week and hope your HFS journey is positive. Grab a bagel or some biscuits and gravy and relax as you journey through this week's edition. We are happy to have you.

From HFS to everyone who donated to the annual March Madness Donation Drive, THANK YOU, for your kindness and generous donations to fund us through 2024. Because of your willingness to support our efforts, the donation drive achieved a 104% of our original goal. Thank you so much.

We hope you enjoyed a wonderful Easter wherever you may have spent it. We attended a service on Friday evening for Communion and Passover in Kodak, TN and then a Resurrection service on Sunday morning in Morristown, TN. It was an amazing weekend, spiritually. HFS hopes your world slowed down enough for you to celebrate Easter. After the Sunday service, Ms. Lucy and I went to the home of dear friends and our HFS Patriot sister and brother who invited us for Easter dinner and the afternoon together. It was wonderful. Not feeling rushed and having a relaxing afternoon together to chat was so fantastic. Thank you so much for sharing your time and home with us.

We had a beautiful weekend here in Eastern, TN. We took advantage of the wonderful weather to be outdoors. A great time to do some yard work, trees trimmed, wood piles burned and cleanup from the winter. Things always look better after weekends like this one, but it's the sunshine and exercise that wins the prize. Ms. Lucy wins the prize for hard work. So much so, she had a large trailer load of wood chips delivered yesterday to continue a two-year project we have been working on. Oh, another truck load of magic mix (dirt and mushroom compost) is being delivered today (Friday) for the garden boxes. It's that time of year again. Are you ready?

Let us move along....

Ding, Ding, Ding....Attention HFS readers..... Opinions shared in this newsletter are just that, opinions, and nothing more. Read at your own risk. The owner and author of this site is not responsible for hurt feelings or thin-skinned readers. I do my best to show restraint and respect to the best extent possible. I take as many precautions as possible and try to remain as nonpolitical as possible, however, there are times when I just can't help but point certain things out. Occasionally I use words only Patriots recognize and understand. It's not personal against any non-Patriot. It's just the truth. Sometimes we must pull up our spenders and suck it up. Just saying. Stay the course, read what you want, and avoid the rest. Avoid fear porn as much as possible and the day will be okay. When all else fails… Keep the faith and always have Hope.

Let’s move along and get to some thoughts...

Thoughts for the week - Israel and the Middle East

So much is happening in the Middle East and specifically between Israel and Iran. My personal choice for honest and timely information comes from foreign war correspondence Mr. Chuck Holton. I have shared Chuck's link before on specific stories and again I share this podcast for his discussion on current Israel and Iran issues. Ms. Lucy and I used to go to Church with Chuck, Ms. Connie, and Chuck's family in West Viriginia about 18-20 years ago. I would encourage you to check this out and follow Chuck' on YouTube (The Hot Zone).

Preparedness

It's that time of year again and those of us who plant some type of a garden, raised beds, flowerpot, tower, and many other methods, to produce resources. I don't know about you, but I get excited when I think about it. Yea, it's hot, lots of bees and critters flying around, bending and leaning over, and good old-fashioned sweat. Yea, it's a wonderful investment for the awesome results we hope to get as our return on effort. Now, I can hear my Patriot sister down near Roxboro, NC saying, "it's much easier to find frozen vegetables and then run them through the dehydrator." No argument here. I just enjoy the time in the garden. It's peaceful and seems to maybe be a type of therapy called relaxation. Yea, that's it.

I know many of you don't, won't, or can't install a full-sized garden and that is cool also. Growing something is better than nothing. The point is to plant and grow to learn how and to show yourself you can do it. Look at it as motivation and not a chore or weight around your ankles. Have fun with it.

If you are just starting, here's some things to consider having handy to help you enjoy the experience as much as possible. Oh, did I mention this effort will qualify as exercise?

Are you one of the "plant it all now" farmers or you like to use a guide and try to plant seasonally according to the almanac? Here you go, here's a suggestion for you. Remember, it does depend on the region you are located.

Potatoes - There's so many ways to grow potatoes that one could have plenty and not till an inch of earth. Here's a couple examples to consider.

Tomatoes - It is just me or does it seem tomatoes are like the many moods of the human? Types, sizes, health, and happiness of the tomato. Agree? Why is my tomato this? Why is my tomato that? Why is my tomato splitting? Why does my tomato appear to be waterlogged? More questions than enjoyment of the tomato, right? Here's a couple charts to consider when planting and dealing with tomatoes.

Let us move along to some other news.

Prayers - Please keep our great nation, our elected leaders, military and first responders in your thoughts and prayers. We pray for good health and wisdom. Please pray for our leadership to find answers and guidance to the problems facing our great nation. May your faith remain strong and answers to the unknown provided. God is good and may our prayers blanket and protect you and your circumstances. I pray for each, and every one of our Patriots.

Our HFS family has many prayers needs for health and moral. We love you all and continue praying for each of you.

As Patriots we must stay strong and never give up. Our home, community, and nation need us now more than ever. Stay focused on your local community and things that will impact you around the nation. Don't allow the events around you to create fear in your life. Build your own self-reliance and focus on faith and hope.
